They are called "freak perforations" and at one time they commanded a premium... until it was discovered that the vast majority are artificial creations manufactured by an enterprising stamp dealer 100+ years ago that purchased old perforating equipment.
They are now considered by most collectors to be the same as punch or cut cancels, i.e., a negative rather than a positive.

You and a few of the other regular revenue collectors here have inspired me to branch out. I really enjoy the varieties within each of the first issue revenues. I hadn't previously noticed the similarities with the 1851-1857 regular issue.
