The largest multiple of this stamp is the single pane of 50 whixh is houses at Library and Archives Canada. For those interested in discovering virtually everything there is to know about the Inverted Seaway stamp, there is a book available from the Greene Foundation. This book is a worthwhile addition to any philatelic library and it is available at the bargain price of $10 (plus shipping) while supplies last. Ordering details can be found at http://www.greenefoundation.ca/books.htm#books |

Garfield - it looks as though the Seaway books are all gone! (i.e not on the ebay site that your VGG link directs towards) Can you confirm if this is the case? Looks like I missed out on the deal of the year... Peter |

Peter, the Seaway books are not all sold. Please phone the Greene Foundation (416-921-2073) where the book can be ordered directly at the same price.

You have to believe that when items like this come on to the market, it will drive down the value of the singles already out there. I would leave it alone - perhaps it is unique? |

If I could afford this I would definately not break up the block. As jogil stated it is of good historical context for this example, and as well only one of now 12 possible available if intact in the market. As well this helps maintain its scarcity rather than as singles and keeps it ever sought after and valued by true collectors of postal history.

Are Canadian stamps being passed over in the U.S. due to rocky relations between Trump and Trudeau? Is there a boycott going on? Didn't a similar thing happen to Canada related items in the Gross Auction? |

Just the Beaver cover got passed, as I recall.
Unfortunate, but it mostly means, I think, that stamp collecting as a whole, hasn't yet (probably) found a suitable collector replacement for Gross. |

While many of us probably have countries we choose to avoid, I can't imagine the Gross sale bidders would be avoiding Canadian stamps because of a row manufactured in Washington. Of course, some of the Gross buyers probably won't even look at the stamps before they go into the safety deposit box with the other investments. |

The problem with buying Canadian Stamps in the USA is that Canadian bidders are unable to bid much on the hammer price. Considering most bidders for Canada stamps would be Canadian this makes it difficult to get a good price in an American Auction if you are a seller. This reduces the competition for an auction lot as well.
Here's an example. I bid on a nice 7 1/2d proof at Spink. I won at $210 USD. Keep this number in mind - $210. Plus premium would be great. BUT ...
There is a 20% premium and then a 3% fee for payment by credit card. This bumps it to $259.56. The shipping charge was $50 crossborder shipping. Now we are up to $309.56. Convert that to the Canadian: $403.55. We're not done yet because when you receive this at the door there is a 13% HST charge for Federal Tax or $52.46. Now that $210 bid translates into $456.01 - more than double the hammer price.
So if I bid on a lot in an American Auction Sale, I always divide my bid by 2. |
