Poll Question:
Would you breakup this block in order to sell individual stamps?

I would if you believe you could make enough extra to justify the time, etc involved in selling them individually. |

I would not break it up...Like a lot would do to try and make a buck...I collect stamps, not sell them..I would keep it for future stamp collectors to appreciate.

When I look at classic stamps for sale at auction and see the label "largest known multiple" for an item, I often wonder what motivated the collector/owners of other large multiples to break them up into smaller blocks or singles. While it is possible that this block may not be the largest existing today, it may be tomorrow or next month or in a decade. I'd hate myself for being the guy who would someday tell the story that "I once owned a the largest multiple of that stamp, but I decided to break it up."
I would not break it up. |

No, I would not break this block up. This inverted variety does not exist with numbered plate corner blocks as the regular stamp does. The inverted stamps were found in post office field stock which at the time had the marginal printer's name and plate numbers trimmed off. Thus, any unseparated corner block such as shown in this picture increases the scarcity and value of this stamp variety. Separating these stamps would destroy such a corner block. It is important that the background information on such stamps be known to prevent someone from making a misguided decision. |

This block of 6 was a block of ten at one time. Siegel is also selling a block of 4 from a different former block of 10. |

In their latest catalogue, does Unitrade have a separate price listing for inverted Seaway corner blocks? |

No way I would break that up.
There are plenty of Singles already around on the market. |

It's extremely rare and would - I think - command a higher value than six singles. Besides which, it really offers an entirely different - and better - view of the error IMHO. |

Out of around 200 (4 x 50) such inverted stamps (Scott # 387a), there would at the most be 16 possible corner blocks. |

I'm a bit mixed on the topic based on the following thing.
1. it's your property, so in my opinion you are free to do whatever you want with it. 2. In my case, I wouldn't want to pay (atleast) 6x as much for a stamp in a block of 6. I always feel I could've spend that money on other stamps. 3. Of course this is a one of a kind item, and should'nt be broken up in my opinion. 4. I have one case where I always think stamps should be kept together, Imperforate multiples

What is the currently largest block? Is it a block of 6 and this is the only one? |

Thank you, wert, for the information! So, my take on breaking up this block of 6 is, if there is a block of 12 extant, then I would consider breaking it up into a corner block of 4 and two singles. |
