Scott 0257 Perfin - Explain How This Happens.

Here is a little quiz for you guys..Take a look at this pair of Scott 0257 stamp and explain how one is double perfin and one isn't..?

Guess:
Being a Govt. puncture, it possibly was carried out on a Grover style perforator, the stamp sheet advances one stamp length, after each puncture.

Sometimes, I have read where at the end of routine using unspecified paper length, the bed hits a feed limiter, and the perforator "stutters" giving out a second rotation of the perforator punch.

Happy to stand corrected.

This is one idea that could have happened...Remember a shutter is usually described as a horizontal indecent..This would cause a tear in the paper's perforations..There are NO tears, perfect perfs...Unless it was a vertical shutter..

Any other opinions..?

The solution to your question is very simple and was, in fact, included in my June 23 response to a somewhat similar question. Here is a scan of page 2 of Roy Wrigley's booklet on Canada's OHMS Officials.



Remember that this is a 'large' format stamp and would have been handled with the right hand side being uppermost (i.e. turn your illustration 90 degrees left) to perforate 10 impressions. Your left hand stamp then became thenext row to be perforated and it was struck twice.
