There have been accurate forgeries made something like 20 years ago. Overprints were copied from original sheets or blocks onto genuine stamps, so they reproduce the varieties exactly in proper positions. They were done using a laser printer and shows the ink dots and spray that those earlier machines made (as seen under magnification).
