Hi all,

If you use Vario-F or Vario-G binders, what method do you use to label the spine? I am curious as to how others do this...

I have tried using a label maker (cloth and plastic labels) but they do not stick permanently.

Permanent marker? Paper and tape? Just a number for each volume?

How do YOU do it?

John

Lighthouse make country titles, but they may not meet your needs. Mainly paper and tape for me, especially as I'll probably alter them over time.

I used a Brother D400, great label printer for all kinds of labels (not just stamp stuff)

Dan covers this printer well in this thread

Don

Edit: Also does graphics on labels

SAFE has a line of preprinted and custom-printed labels, https://www.safepub.com/stamp-colle...ls-stickers/

You could also consider using a different adhesive, there's no reason you need to just use whatever's on the back of the labels you're using. Maybe a quick swipe of a Gorilla Glue stick would take care of things for you.

I have used a similar Brother printer for labels, black lettering on clear labels. I had 2 issues with labeing Vario binders- first the spine is pretty small so I was very limited in what could go on the labels.
Second, I could not easily get the labels to be square and neat looking.

So what I did was put as much text on the label as was needed and affixed the label to the top of the slip case. The labels were much less noticeable so neatness didn't count as much.

Brother label printer using a "gold on clear" cartridge. Looks great, I haven't had any problems with long-term adhesion. Even if they started to come loose, it's easy enough to print another one and replace it.

As mentioned, Lighthouse does sell packs of country labels in gold lettering and I've used those as well. You can get labels for pretty much all the major countries, but less popular areas or specialties are generally not available. The Lighthouse country label packs do contain some plain Roman numerals you can use as well if you simply want to number them - perhaps referenced against an index.

@TheArtfulHinger, how did you get the Brother gold on clear to work? I've tried three different cartridges with my P-Touch, and all of them print gold on the non-adhesive clear part of the label. The gold foil sits between the clear front and the adhesive back, so you either get gold on clear w/no adhesive, or just straight gold w/no lettering. Looking for any advise as I'm now $40 on these darn cartridges and not a thing to show for it other than a pile of scrap labels.

I currently use Avery removeable labels (not very elegant) since I have pages for 162 countries (print on demand Steiner) pages distributed over 22 Vario G binders. This means replacing labels since split by country not by country letter.

Note: I purchased store brand removeable labels and they did did not stick as well as the Avery brand. Neither worked well when printed with solid colors on a laser printer.

Sadly, the price of the Vario G binders/slip cases has increased.

Some prior discussions on labels.
