hello,

there are imperforate and part imperforate revenue stamps. Were both just errors in production? and were they then always cut by scissors by the people? if yes: how can you be sure if you want to buy one that it's a genuine imperforate? Is there a rule like for the coil stamps of some margin size?

Especially for those revenue stamps only imperforate on two sides I would guess that there exist stamps with large margins which could have been manipulated?

They were shipped part perforated, so they are not errors. There was a huge amount of pressure to 'ship' these revenue stamps so they went out the door that way.

Yes, there are many, many part-perf altered stamps in the marketplace. Hobbyists need to become very well educated before starting to buy part-perf revenue stamps. Alternatively, purchase only stamps with certs or multiples.

Part perfs are a difficult area which requires real study. Sometimes even multiples can be faked.

thank you. I know "real study" is nothing to explain here in a forum in one minute. But in which direction does this study then go? If the margin size of the imperforate sides are not enough to prove a genuine stamp, which parameters could do so?

(talking about stamps which in theory can exist or already exist certified, by the way I don't have any to show which I want to buy, just wanted to know)

The imperforate and part-perforate stamps were issued shortly after the taxes went into effect. Over the life of the contract, there were variations in the type of paper that was used and the ink colors. Analysis of a part-perf stamp would include the margins, the date of the cancel, the type of paper, and the color shade of the stamp.

The impression also plays a part.

For reference, here are two examples of faked part perf multiples. Both were created by perforating imperforate pairs.
