Just found this stam with some other US stamps. Since I do not collect US stamps I had not noticed it. Now my question is, could this be a real Scott 68 and if so, what are the problems with this stamp? As always, thank you very much for your time and expert opinion! Pete
To Caper123, Thank you for your post. I guess I am too much of a novice to understand all that. The posts don't say what a tag is, and I really don't know how it relates to my stamp. I would be very grateful if you or another expert could help me out with this. Thank you, Peter
Again, thanks for the info. Since I still can't identify the tag, I have taken another picture ,much closer, in the hope I could see the double transfer. Again, I ask for your help and perhaps help me see the double transfer.
Seems increasingly hard to get easy answers to simple questions. Let's give it a try...
Your stamp is a real US #68.
It is actually in pretty decent shape. Very nicely centered for this issue. It appears to be unused, though some better scans would definitely be needed.
As for what's wrong with it? Again, hard to say from your pictures. Some obvious things - a crease/tear in the upper right / lower right corner perfs - clearly visible from the back. The dark smudges on the left side (as seen from the back) suggest it may be used?
Not a gem, by any means, but a very nice 68. It will look great in your collection.
The other issues like double-transfers etc are for specialists in this issue. If you're so inclined, at some point...
