Hello,

I've acquired a collection of stamps over the past decade mostly through elderly family members and recently I discovered this one.

I am aware that the odds are against me and that there are billions of stamps that look almost identical, however based on the colour and [amateur] measurements that I have taken, I think that there is a possibility that this stamp is either a Scott #594 or #596. I'm unclear on how to identify whether it is a rotary press or a flat plate.

Thank you in advance for any help!

No, a 596 is perf 11 x 11 ... your stamp is not 11 x 11

Short answer: No.

Longer answer: Throw away the ruler and start with a perforation gauge. Based on the shade, you find the top/bottom perforations are 11, and the sides are 10.5, thus you have a Scott 632. No amount of measuring the design size will make it anything else.

I found counting the perforations quite confusing as a photo of a genuine #596 seemed to have 12 holes by 11. Thank you for your replies

Lesson 2: reread lesson 1 above, perforations are not counted. Obtain and learn to use a perforation gauge.

Hi all, just trying to live a dream...the perf actually cuts off the top so it's hard to get a good measurement. Perf 11 though and over 19 and over 22 mm from what I can gather....thoughts?
