I received this 1c Franklin collection today.
This will take me a while to plate but really adds to my collection.
I got a real good deal on them.

Yes you did. He had several lots that went at pretty fair prices. I started to bid on these but am holding out to bid on a couple items in Siegel Auction tomorrow.

Yes, ebay lots. He had 4 lots. 1c Franklin imperf with 23 items, 1c Franklin perfed with about 67 items, 3c Washington imperf (120) and perfed (287) copies, (numbers are approx). I got the two top row corner pieces (that I posted in another link)from the same person.

It looks like the bottom left stamp is a bottom row "A" relief stamp from plate 1 early or late. That will narrow down the choices on that one. I do not see any #5's in the group, lol.

Lower right stamp might wind up being a #24.

I was thinking that the lower right stamp might be plate 11 or 12. I am leaning against the odds to say plate 11 because of the fuzziness of the image. That would make it almost impossible to plate.

I don't see the dot in the medallion that identifies Plates 11 and 12 in the LR stamp. I agree with txstamp--this smells like #24, especially the UL frameline.

I will post a larger image when I get home of that bottom right one. I do agree that it looks like a #24 at top but not at sides.

Here is a 1200 dpi of that lower left stamp.
I think plate 11 or 12 with perfs cut.
I would say it is not a #24 but #20 or #22.
The top sure looks strange to me.
I would like your opinions.

Looks like side ornaments have been partially painted in.

Clearly an altered stamp as Tipzi pointed out. It is a #24 from an F-relief position. The F-relief doesn't have side scratches to contend with.

What an ugly alteration. Whoever did that needs to try a different hobby.

Here is the image of the bottom left corner stamp that caught my eye earlier. It appears to be an A relief, bottom row stamp. That narrows it down to 8 positions. I do not think it looks like an early print but recut top line is not visible. So, plate 1 late brings it to 3 choices. 98R1L has definite plating marks in the top letters so that one is out. It has to be 99R1L or 100R1L. With the low cut upper right orn, I am leaning toward 100R1L.

Here is the upper right ornament. The left is my copy of 99R1L and the right is the stamp in question. I would say the right one is shorter and does not match.

Second row, third stamp looks to be 21R1L.
