I have gone through about 50% of my Scott 96 and 2 of them so far have this interesting anomaly..Before I send it off to Ralph, want your opinion. (top stamp has the anomaly)

Nice find Robert! Did you notice the same thing I did - the line seems to be extended outside the stamp on the left side. Could it be an LOM line?

Yes Peter...I noticed that.
BlackJag..I have 16 mint ones and 3 have this oddity.

Matter a fact I have seen s similar oddity on a few of my 1898 map stamps also.

This looks like an unerased guideline to me. Very similar to those found on the 5c value of this series. In addition to the well-known hairlines and re-entries on the Tercentanry issue, there are also a large number of retouches and other marks that are not well-documented.

An August 1973 article in Maple Leaves provides some plating information for this stamp which mentions a dotted guideline that appear among the top horizontal lines of this value in many positions from the top row. I think that is what you have here.

I do not see the obvious tear on the perforation in the left in the enlargement on the original stamp above. What gives?

Sorry sak..i placed this close up because I shows the line better than all 3 stamps..Same line on the other 2..Sorry about that buddy.

Wert, here is a re-entry that shows the strong doubling in Canada, left 1/2, and the engraver's sli[ at bottom, known as position 44
