The two covers represent the American and British Zones Allied Administration/Occupation Period of Germany, between 1945 and 1955. I believe these stamps were primarily used in the 1947-1949 period -- but I may be wrong about the exact period. The top cover was mailed from the Schoeneberg section of Berlin to Pittsburgh, Pa., (I can't read the cancel/mailing date) and bears a (red?) Berlin Civil Censorship machine marking of the period at the left side. The second cover, was open, censored and re-sealed in the British-Sector of Berlin ofon 23 March 1947 to Pittsburgh, Pa., via New York.
I believe Hal is correct. These are not WW 2 censored covers, they are censored covers from after the war ended by several years. I cannot read the date on the first one, but the second one appears to be dated May 26, 1947. The war with Germany ended on May 8, 1945, and the war with Japan ended on September 2, 1945 when the surrender was formally signed. Post war censored covers from Germany are an interesting area to collect given how Germany was divided up among the allies. And there is a fascinating subspecialty for covers flown to and from Berlin on the Berlin Air Bridge between June 26, 1948 and September 30, 1949 when the USSR blocked US and other Western allies from having ground access to the US sector of Berlin. There were several hundred thousand flights flown by the air forces of the US, Britan, France, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa carrying food, fuel, mail, and other high priority cargo.
