I guess the first to the left is regular precanceled, with a town and state name.
What about the one in the middle? What does empty cancellation mean?
The one on the right - it's not a town and state. What is it?
Thanks for any info.
Rob

all are considered precancels... all of the overprints were applied at the BEP when manufacturing the stamps.

The middle one is an overprint too? Or simple cancellation that happened to look alike?

Tagging is an additional "color" applied to a stamp in order to make it visible to an automatic cancelling device. Please use the search function on this page to learn more about it

Google "Tagging (stamp) - Wikipedia" for a good, short explanation.

A peek at the Scott US Specialized catalog finds that the 8.4c (Sc# 1615C) had 145 different Bureau precancels in 144 cities plus the bars-only "silent" precancel. The 7.9c (Sc# 1615) had 103 different Bureau precancels in 107 cities plus two different CAR-RT SORT (Carrier Route Sort) varieties.
