http://www.polska-filatelistyka.co.uk/en/

I surfed across this site recently; They look to be operating from the UK but may be based in Poland. Very low prices on year sets, far below any I see on ebay. I place a trial order for a few, postage was just UK 2.98. Will update and review when the order arrives.

I just couldn't figure where to post this. Feel free to move if needed.

I know that the postage from Europe can be alarming, but the prices for whole collections of Eastern Europe material - Poland, Czechoslovakia etc - really are rock-bottom, eg

This dealer's prices are less than 50% of the same yearly units as listed on the site of one of the biggest dealers in Polish material here in the States. We'll see what I get so far as quality and service.

I've been watching the value of my Polish collection slowly but surely slide South over the past few years. The upside is that some previously costly items are now within reach.

Hi GeoffHa

I assume you have purchased from them?

Do you know why for many collections they only have 1 image?

Do you have a list of abbreviations they use?

In my case I would have to add 60% exchange rate on the sale prices, buyers premium, as well as the shipping. Difficult to do when you can see only a small sample of what is being sold.

Any info would be appreciated.

Yes, I've bought from them fairly regularly over several years - stamos, cigarette cards, postcards. I imagine the lack of images reflects lack of time - but pretty common for GB auction sites. Buyer's premium is always nasty, but I suspect that it pretty much keeps many auctions going in the ebay world. If I were overseas, with all of the additional costs that carries, I'd need to be pretty sure or buying pretty cheaply.

Abbreviations? The common stamp ones (UM = unmounted mint, M = mounted mint, Unused = uncancelled, but no gum), plus B = box(es), V = volume(s), L = leaves. But there are probably others.

Geoff

There's a refreshing piece of candor.
In my experience, I'd suggest that only concerns the 60's to the 90's
The rarer material still holds a decent value.

To a certain extent, yes, Poland #1 will always maintain it's worth, but some items have plummeted. Block #1 used to sell for $300-$400, now, when they do sell, you're lucky to get $150.

One of my main interests, pre-war single stamp useage cards & covers have remained static at $10-$25 each for the last 30 years

Message today from the seller:

'Thanks for your order placed in our shop. Unfortunately I am unable to process the order in next 5 day. We have family problem and we need to sort it out first. I promise you to process your order on next Saturday and post it on Monday. Just let me know if you prefer to cancel the order instead of waiting.

Best wishes '

Nothing wrong with thisa, stuff happens but.. it's a little worrisome. If he doesn't contact in a week, I may rethink this.

Update, still no stamps. He did message me Monday telling me he'd be mailing them the next day and would send a tracking #. Not received. Not sure what is going on with this guy. We all have things come up now and then. Those of us who have a business usually try to have some contingency plan so it's not disrupted.

Veering toward not buying from him again. Low prices are meaningless if you have to keep after the seller to get the merchandise.
