Moving my Montenegrin collection, and found one I can't place.

Looking for any information people have on the stamp on the right, from Montenegro. It's an overprint of the one on the left (Scott #82).

A friend who knows Cyrillic (but not Serbian too well) has said the overprint references something like "trademark/legal registration", and there is the date of 16/VI 1909, so June 16, 1909. So perhaps #82 was overprinted for fiscal use by the government? Potentially the whole series it belongs too?

Thanks, Greg

Yes, it's listed in the Barefoot catalogue as a Montenegrin revenue.

It was one of a set of twelve values with this overprint.

At least two values of the 1907 postage due set were also overprinted in this way.

Thanks for the info nigelc. The entire series (Scott #75-86) then had that overprint applied. I do wonder if the date has any significance in Montenegrin history. Looked a bit but didn't find anything.

Most likely, it is the date of the legislation.

You have Montenegro, Tax stamps - used to pay taxes on lottery tickets and later used for "stamping" (as proof that tax are paid) other documents.

Issued (overprint) in Jun 16, 1909, in set of 12 values, date don't have any history significance, as it is just a date when this law come in effect (Law that impose tax on lottery tickets).

Full set of 12 values in mint, nh condition, according M. Radichevich catalog, have 160.00 euro (full catalog value), in used condition it is valued at 100.00 euro.
