I have 2 US postage stamps with the 'First Day Of Issue' cancellation stamp as 'Capex STA / Toronto Canada'.
Did the US Postal Service have an office up in Canada, or did the Canadians use US postage stamps for some reason.
I'm confused.

CAPEX '78 was held in Toronto ... I would guess that Toronto became the site for first day cancelations even though it was in Canada rather than the U.S. Just checked my Scott U.S. specialized & it lists Toronto as the site for first days for 1757 ... and hence 1757a thru 1757h as well.

USPS was there, I stood in line for 2 hours to buy the S/S, which turned out to be a very bad investment.

My wife and I and a couple of friends attended CAPEX '78. The exhibits were fantastic but the main action appeared to be at the different postal entities that were present. Selling was furious and people were buying everything. I remember standing in line at the Canada Post booth and people, especially those from out of the country were buying everything. I even heard that some people came by plane with suitcases they wanted to fill but cannot verify that.

There was one man in particular, who I believe was from out of the country, and he wanted all the SS in quantity. He was buying all the latest issues as well and everything else he could get. He set his eyes on one big book, a very thick book, and he said to the clerk, I want that thick book behind you'. The clerk behind the counter asked, 'this book?', and he replied 'yes'. The clerk looked at him and glibly stated, 'that is the Toronto phone book'. True story and that is how much of a frenzy some people were to buy at that show. A lot of investment buying was stated to have taken place, but a lot of people were disappointed by all the stamp issuing entities because they have not increased in value like they thought they would.

Sadly for those who bought these stamps in large quantities hoping for a profit, today these stamps and souvenir sheets are sold as discount postage - less than their face value.
