It was during one of FDR's fishing trips. Thanks for sharing.

All postal history is desirable though commercial value varies. This is considered by most collectors to be a Naval Cover, and not especially rare or valuable. There are a great many USS Potomac covers that were made with all sorts of cachets. The ones that seem to go for the most money - in the $15 to $20 range - are the Crosby photo cachets that include the small black and white glossy photograph of the boat glued in the center of the cachet. Also, whether or not the stamps used are cancelled on their first day of issue or whether the stamps have significant value simply as used stamps unrelated to being on the cover can raise the values. Less dramatic cachets, such as the one you have, seem to sell more in the $2 to $3 range, give or take. There are usually a number of Potomac covers for sale every week on ebay, though often the sellers put unrealistically high starting bids on them. Look at the listings where they actually sold to get an idea of values of different ones.
