My great grandfather passed me down his collection of stamps. There are HUNDREDS. he has sort of organized them in envelopes, other than the ones that have gotten mixed up while packing. I have tried googling some, But not sure if the ones I am finding are the same. They look the same as the images I find online. What are certain ones I should look for that have value? Any help would be appreciated.

Opinion.
These look to be ages from a "circuit book", members of a stamp club attach their duplicates, and the pages are sent to members, whom remove the stamps they want and press a coloured stamp with their ID, they send the money back to the stamp club.

A great way for a beginner to have stamps for virtually nothing, if they buy "old" circuit books where nobody has chosen the stamps that are usually very common.

I just bought 60 pages for $5

Yours appear to be from a "Precancel" book, these can bring better prices depending on rarity.

The postage due is most lightly J81, but its impossible to tell from the small scan. Check the perfs. J69 - J78 are perforated 11x11 and J79 - J87 are 11x10½.

I dont know much about stamps. I've been studying up a little since I got these. Which stamp are you talking about? And exactly what do I need to check for? I've found the 2 cent washington and the (2) green one cent Franklin's online for sale at quite a high price but I'm not sure if mine are the same

Hi.

You have an interesting-looking collection there. There's no real golden rule for what to look out for. Stamps are so varied and variable, anything may or may not be collectable, depending what it is. The vast majority of stamps are of little worth however.

I'd be keen to sort through that box if I had it in front of me. Monetary worth is unknowable as we can't see them. If you can pull out some of the unusual ones or ones which you're curious about for whatever reason, try posting some better images, like for example, in this thread:

As mentioned, all the US ones with the horizontal lines and town names printed over the top are called pre-cancels. I don't know much about them, but I understand there are so many different ones in existence it is impossible to collect them all. A few might be worth something but I would guess yours are common, not valuable, as they have apparently been through the hands of collectors and dealers already, and left behind. Nevertheless, interesting to sort through and see what's there.

I see some British Commonwealth as well - Newfoundland, a block of four New Zealand. Commonwealth is very collectable. If you are interested in them, beyond what they are worth, maybe you could invest in a stock book (and tweezers/tongs) and get some of them laid out for better viewing?

I believe you are asking if their is cash value to your stamps. Based upon your scans you have little to no monetary value there. If you are interested in learning about identifying stamps it is a fun little project. Just being honest.
