Are there any piece collectors with an opinion regarding the best way to display and safeguard their collection?

I am new to collecting them and have an assortment of old Bosnian parcel card cuttings. I've been putting them into Vario pages but something about the flexibility of the page combined with the relative size and (perceived?) inflexibility of the pieces makes me wonder if I'll end up crimping the pieces. Perhaps a stockbook with hard pages would work better?

I'm half tempted to find a guinea pig cutting and wobble it around on the page a bit. I've resisted so far.

Non acidic photo corners might be a solution for card/postcard pieces.

You can mount them in blank or quadrille leaves, with hinges or, for larger or thicker pieces, mounts or the photo corners Bobby mentions. If this is a major part of your collection, and you don't need them to sit with other stamps, you could use the leaves used by cigarette card collectors. These are designed to display a range of card sizes, and you can incorporate any write-up. This is a UK site, but I presume that these are available in the US -

Frankly, I use Vario pages for on piece, covers, and mini/souvenir sheets and they come in many different sizes (1-pocket, 2-pocket, etc.). There are two types of Vario pages, one is more expensive and sturdier.

Niceperf: welcome to the Forum.

I have a few postal card cutouts and I mount them with hinges, on a blank Scott International quadrille page. I buy these pages from Subway Stamp Shop as their G & K brand is slightly thicker than the Scott printed pages.

Like HungaryForStamps, I sometimes used Vario pages. For larger clippings, 2-4 pockets per side can be used.

These are small clippings from Gau Wartheland (occupied Poland, WWII). Pieces are in Prinz mounts, and pencil notes are on snippets.

I store a lot of my stamps on Vario stock sheets. And I put all my FDC's on 3-pocket Vario stock sheets in binders because it save me mounting them, and they can be heavy. Beyond that, actual stamp collections on Vario stock sheets (oh, okay, I'll call them "pages" if you insist!) seem a bit lazy to me, as if the collector has too much stuff and too little time to deal with it. So they just slip it all into pockets and are done with it.

A collector who wanted to showcase his stamps would more than likely want to mount them on pages, as they have been for generations. It's the "extra" stuff that often gets shoved into Vario pages because it's just much easier that way, and they do look pretty decent on those nice Vario pages.

I use Vario pages, and I have nothing against them, but they were designed for storing stamps like stock books. To me, they still look like stock books, not like albums. And I do realize some collectors use stock books as albums. I prefer actual "pages" with stamps mounted on them, as much as possible, excepting covers and other items that just won't fit well on pages.

Why not mount them on heavy paper pages? There are many ways to do that -- heavy duty hinges, double-sided archival tape, photo corners, stamp mounts. All will work, and the result is going to be look "album-like" and satisfying. To me, anyway!

But it's entirely up to you since it's your collection.
