Hello I Picked Up these old dealer early Classic Stamps stock books for $75 bucks I think its a great deal. I don't think they have been gone thru in a while because you know when stamps are stacked 10-15 high and stick together not bad just had to bend them a little to separate them some were bad tho because the gum and the humidity really got them stuck together. I know theirs really no super one but the Scott that suppose to be and marked 65 had grills in them and I just have to figure out the colors and the Ben Franklin ones are neat got to figure those out also a lot from 1908.

Like I mentioned their stacked 10-15 high has to be a few hundred of each looks like i'll be busy.

Theirs 36 pages which are larger than a sheet of paper ;-)

Also how the Auction here do stamps sell I have maybe 20 albums of USA and WW stamps a lot of early German one thanks for reading Austin

Thanks Mr Reedededge
I've been careful so far with he stamps that are stuck to bad I'll put those aside I basically have to relearn stamp collecting again after 40+ years. And the scott numbers that are noted their aren't correct either I had found some nice 3 cent train ones in the mix but they have been trimmed badly back then.

The Franklin's and Washington's from 1908 are going to be a challenge I think and I have to got thru like 2-3 hundred early stamps for more grills I found 13 so far in the Scott 65 column.

I tried to list my ebay auction here but it won't let me I have some lots listed but it kicks back saying I need 50 post can I post my listings here ??? I don't want to break the rules because its a great forum and has a lot of info

Thanks Again Austin

Austin,
Yes, we limit commerical posts and use of the messging system until members have 50 quality posts. Experince has shown us that it is best to allow new members to get to know everyone and for everyone to get to know the new member. It also greatly limits 'drive by' commerical posts.

Franklin/Washington's can be challenging but with the right attitude (and perhaps a good single malt) make for a fun couple of evenings to sort through. There are a number of good tools and pages on Stamp Smarter which can help. I find it best to assume that many W/F coils are altered stamps.

Hi Don
I don't mind waiting on the 50 post I have my ebay account for the past 5 years and Facebook since they started. I got a lot of stamps some really nice early Canadian & German ones but I don't want to get Admin upset with me by putting price's or make offer post here this is a good forum and I really don't want to ruin it

And thanks for the links above they are helpful I like the older stock books in which it's highly unlikely to have modern fakes since back then the stamps that are worth 50-100 bucks were only worth a few bucks then and the process to make fakes then involved etching photo lithography and I doubt if people then would have spent a lot to make a few bucks theirs a lot of coils here in strips so those are real I guess just have to figure out the types I guess.

I was thinking about printing clear overlays for stamps that do have a value like width height & perf and comparing them that was I wonder if they have a program like that online seems like appositive approach to ID'ing some of them it would be a great app NO

I fully understand their rules and appreciate them I hate people that scam people and theirs a lot out their and what ever I post I have and I just want to make any and all transaction as easy as possible thanks Again Austin

You can download prinatable, paper perf gauges here
http://stampsmarter.com/learning/Fo...rfGauge.html

These are ok in a pinch, but you really need to consider purchasing a good quality perf gauge.
Don

Edit: Aside from needing to have 50+ post for the forum messaging system and to sell, please also note that we only allow any kind of buying/selling/trading in the appropriate forum category https://goscf.com/c/2

Hi Don
I just tried that Franklin & Washington site it is cool.Whats your thought on the stamp programs they have it has Both Canadian and USA stamps and their price's and some images but their perf program is a bit crappy I think it keeps skewing and comes up in mm I tried the stamp recognition system program only has a few Austrian countries in the demo do you think it would be worth buying. I have a lot of stamps.

I had ordered a few perf gages already and I wish I didn't sell my Mitutoyo laser Micrometer that would be great because it doesn't make contact to the stamp and is very accurate I used it for Bullets I was making in my shop and for the scale Howitzer & Napoleon cannons & Molds I made are you on face Book I have Pictures of the scale cannons I have made sold some to Generals and Admirals B4

What Stamp program do you use or recommend you seem very knowledgeable in this area thanks Again Austin

In my opinion scanning and then running the stamp through a perf application is not feasible if you are faced with hundreds or thousands of stamps. In fact, after you hand gauge enough of them you will be able to visually identify a perf 10 from a perf 12 pretty quickly.

For inventorying stamps I use StampManage because the initial cost of the app pales in comparison to the time invested in entering the stamp data. Unlike some others, StampManage database is NOT encrypted so no matter what happens in the future I will always maintain my investment in the data entry.

Note that no catalog or application will have actual market values. Catalog values are all over the place but many people are surpirsed to only get 10%-20% of catalog value when they go to sell their stamps. You can filter ebay 'sold' values to get somewhat an idea but you have to be aware of stamp conidtion. Stamps are like vintage cars, a specific car might have a true market value of $1000 or $25,000 totally depending upon its condition.

Hi Again
Yes I agree on their value is only what people are willing to pay and the condition many of these stamps in this old book are kind of bad and it would be nice id they were all like the one below. But some like the post marks and if they can't afford a high dollar stamp they make due with a used one.I really didn't expect to find a high dollar stamp among st these but the Canadian lot I got had a lot of early ones that sold for a small bit on ebay if this pic isn't allowed i'll remove it but for the price I paid i'm happy. They are Canada's classics like our early stamps

I just need to find a good outlet that people will see them got to start some where and if you get the hits then you'll get the bids and reputation is the key and just start the bids at a dollar and let it ride.I mean if you get between 1.50-10 for a stamp thats worth 50-100 it would be good but on any high dollar one no
