Long story short, on 9-21 I bought a set of album pages on ebay using my Paypal credit option, I was a bit short and planned to pay this off in a couple of weeks. The pages turned out to have been mis-described and after an exchange with the seller he authorized me to send them back. I did and he notified he'd issued a refund. That was this past Monday.

No sign of any payment or credit to my Paypal account is showing. I called their toll free # yesterday and spoke to an agent who told me the refund should show up as a credit on my Paypal credit balance 'in 24 hours'. This morning I got a 'You've got cash' email. Nothing showing.

Back to the phone. This time a guy who sounded to be in India who had no idea what I meant by Paypal Credit. He kept asking for the first digits of my credit card. Bottom line was he would only tell me to wait six to eight working days before contacting them again.

If this still isn't reflected on my account by Monday does anyone have a number I can all or know of someone at PP who can actually be able to do something to get my money back?

Of course this may show up tomorrow but it'd be helpful to know how to escalate a refund process by ta;ling to someone other than the 800 number operators.

Make sure you're calling within standard business hours (M-F 9-5) factoring in your time zone, to increase the odds of reaching U.S. support. If you get overseas support, hang up and try again. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Also, I think that accounts that are flagged as "business" accounts increases the likelihood of not being shunted into the overseas queue, as I rarely get non-U.S. support when I call PayPal.

EDIT: Hold on a sec. If you got a "You've got cash!" email, that tells me that he didn't do a refund through PayPal the right way. Instead, he just sent you the money, which is wrong on SOOOOOOOO many levels.

Check your regular PayPal balance. to see if it's there. The problem with (dumb) sellers doing it this way means that you likely paid fees to get the refund, which is not what is supposed to happen.

It's been a long time since I had to deal with this, but early on I had to educate a lot of sellers to NOT just send refunds as regular payments, but to use the built-in refund feature.

rogdcm, thanks. So I need to just wait, I guess. Hard but that's the way it is. They sure seem to want to discourage people asking for refunds on their credit account. In the meantime, I'm paying interest.

There is a little back story to this that I don't see any point in relating, but the seller I think was peeved over my return. Not blaming anyone for that but he listed two units of International pages with the description of 'brand new'. Technically they were as they were never used before but both sets had large paper dings on the LR corner. I couldn't consider using them, the damage was too distracting. He only pictured the title page on each listing. My bad, ought to have realized. It's possible he may have withheld payment to complete the return until this morning. If so there's a chance the refund will appear tomorrow.

The second call was made early this afternoon so don't know why I didn't get a domestic operator but it soon was apparent I didn't. He was totally clueless. I assume there is some mechanism I can follow to get through to a supervisor who can actually do something but that will wait until net week.

PS no, the money is not in my account. It does show up on the detail page of the Credit account but is apparently a pending payment and I cannot find any way to view that.

Sorry to hear your having so much trouble with your purchase. Makes me think more about online, e---, sellers.

Wow! If they were new, never used, I would have described them as new but with fault or bent pages. You know darn well the buyer would be unhappy with the purchase in a situation like this or never deal with you again because they felt mislead. I would not blame them.

Even if you ask for refunds on your credit cards always pay off the amount including the refund expected in order to avoid interest. Later when you get your refund it will be credited to any future purchases anyway.

It typically takes a couple of days after a refund transaction before it shows up but it usually will be dated when it occurs. Quite often you hear authorized or pending until it is posted. And normally there is a 21 day grace period without interest between billings.

Mike

Off course after all that my refund was applied to my Credit account this morning when I checked.

Sorry for the rant but this my be a cautionary tale for others. Be aware that using the credit option may complicate refund, should you have the need to want one. Thanks to all.

PayPal is not your last stop in getting a refund.
When I buy at ebay and don't get what I paid for, there are 3 steps to force a refund:
1) By ebay.
2) If ebay acts out - go to Paypal.
3) My credit card issuer.
Each can overrule a possible refuse of the previous one to refund.
