This latest addition to the collection caught my eye for the color. In comparing it with the colors in R.L. White's volume I for this issue, it appears to be the carmine brown shade from 1851-1852. I peg this as an 11A, in that shade.

Here's the cover and a close up of the stamp. I look forward to what others have to say about my ID.

At a glance, there is no carmine in it. Looking at color and impression quality, its closer to a deep '53 rose red. Cover is likely from January of 1854.

I love the curly outside frame line on the right side. Not an expert on this issue, but I would pick it up just for that effect.

Interesting cover just got a little more interesting. ALWAYS look inside the covers you get - you never know what will fall out!

This was inside the cover above.

I know, not much in value, but still a nice little surprise.

Scott 11A... probably Plate 2L. I'm not disagreeing with AJ but it could be an 1853 usage or even an 1855 usage. It gets a little difficult when the color is somewhat altered by sulfuretting. 1854 is a very reasonable guess.

Hey stampman. That's a pretty stamp and the outer frame line at right and top should really help in plating it. Www.stampplating.com is an awesome site regarding this issue and has a plating wizard to help figure it out.

Hi Stampman! That is a very interesting looking stamp. The way I see it, it looks like the right outer line is really curvy and quite close at top. I also see the top outer line as being high over the 'AG', and then dives to the right. looking on www.stampplating.com, I went through all the plate 2L photos and only one really matches very closely - 88R2l. That database also says there is a guide dot at LR, which is faint, at best, there, and I cannot see it on your stamp. Looks like it might be covered by the cancel. Anyway, that's my guess.
