I don't think the stamp is from Batum. It looks like a common stamp from Russia, Scott 42 or 60. I can't read the cancellation, but maybe it was cancelled in a city in Batum?

Hi: it appears that it has a Black Sea shipmail cancel (1) ?In which case it could fetch a
good price.

This is not exactly like yours but it was sold by Feldman for 750euros.

Given that the destination is Crete in yours;makes it more interesting.IMO

--------------------------------1908 Envelope sent registered to St. Petersburg posted on ship by a resident of the Black Sea port of Tuapse with 7k vert. pair tied by "STEAMSHIP / 9 /BATUM-ODESSA 6 III 1908" cds with further strike below, with "STEAMSHIP BATUM-ODESSA" registered label adjacent, arrival bs, very fine and rare

The most interesting cancel I think is the one with the numeral 1.
In the cancel below it has numeral 3 which is Batumi (Georgia) or Batum.

Then your cover was sent from Odessa too Batum too Constantinople then Crete...

Did the envelope started in Batum, with the cancellation 9 July, rather than 18 July, or is the "9" a time, rather than part of the date?

Interesting cover. Thanks for sharing it.

I read the Russian ship post cancellation as dated 9th July 1895 in the direction Batum to Odessa.

This type of cancellation was replaced by the type shown by perf12 from Feldman.

The serial "1" identifies the post office (i.e. the ship at the time) rather than a port.

As a Crete collector it's frustrating not to be able to read the Crete arrival mark.

I can believe it's a bilingual Turkish post office cancellation from Crete but all I can see is the month in Turkish and French (and maybe the "D" of "CANDIE" at the bottom of the strike).

I think that simplifies the routing a little:

1) Posted/received on board the Russian ship en route to Odessa
2) Odessa
3) Galata
4) Irakleion (Candia)
