My new set was shipped UPS Ground by Brooklyn Coin Stamp Gallery for $20. I would like to acknowledge BCSG for their professionalism. Ordered on Thursday, packed and shipped that day and arrived the next day albiet one State away. Excellent packaging and the price for the set is hard to beat at $498. I am a huge fan of Brooklyn Gallery and use them for most of my supplies purchases. |

I bought a set of used catalogs from someone upgrading. Lots of collectors don't want/can't afford a new set and you could probably sell your set very easily here or on ebay. |

Unless you collect very recent issues, any catalog in the last 5 to 10 years will satisfy most needs. The pricing does not change that much. I had worked with a 2005 Scott classic and found an inexpensive 2018 and saw almost no real difference. The annual publish model is Scott's model to sustain revenue. When dealers buy them, they are using as a pricing model. For example, I see dealers show a mint/LH with a Scott value. The truth is there may be no Scott value since for post 1950 or so stamps. one value is shown for VF NH. |

There are editorial changes throughout that are very useful and informative. I am also a fan of the new A-B format. |

I gave one set to a friend who wanted to start a collection after I showed her my collection. Other wise I donate them to my Stamp club to be auctioned off at our Club Shows. Dianne |

Quote: Unless you collect very recent issues, any catalog in the last 5 to 10 years will satisfy most needs. The pricing does not change that much. I disagree with this as a universal statement. If you only collect front-of-book, this might be true, but it is most definitely NOT the case with back-of-book material. A 10-year old catalogue is going to be WAY off the mark with respect to U.S. revenues, as that area has seen huge increases in values in the last decade, not to mention considerably editorial changes and additions in the catalogue. Other back-of-book areas have seen similar changes. It all depends what you collect and to what depth, as to whether a much older catalogue will suffice. |

Sorry for the veer off-main-topic, but how about a random complaint for Scott? I just got my APS Stamp Insurance bill and was wondering whether or not to increase my coverage - then it hit me... Why in the name of Ben Franklin don't they list some kind of value summaries? I'm not too sure how they reformat their pages each year, but as an old computer guy, I've got to believe it is done with some sort of database. It must have normal reporting capability, right? My main U.S. collection is in 6-Volumes of Scott Nationals I've got every stamp in there in MNH VF condition from the mid-1930s to date. It sure would be nice if they could include subtotals by year, and maybe by decade, for at least each single stamp, in mint and used condition! It shouldn't take the report writer/programmer more than an hour or so to implement, and it would collectively save us poor collectors and appraisers more than a few hundred man-years of tallying stamps one-by-one! ...just a random thought. Sorry! Al |

I never thought of it before now but would the insurance company actually pay Scott value for stamps that are really only worth face value at best? |

Actually, I was kind of afraid of that!
Good old "post-post"!
On the bright side, at least any impending electromagnetic pulse event shouldn't effect their army of scribes.
