Was looking through re-entries.com and came across a Scott 18 stamp and I picked one of mine that what I would call a match and maybe a re-entry...Opinions needed.

Re-entries.com usually say and show why they are calling it a constant variety. What do they say about the one you showed?

The dots within the vignette are "position dots" that helped guide the person using the transfer roller to press the engraving of the stamp into the printing plate. Sometimes, the position dots can be used to identify the plate position of a stamp. In most cases, not.

The dots within the "C" can be from a re-entry, but the position of both of the dots (C and vignette) are different in the two images, so the two are not from the same plate position.

C.

Re-entries.com has this example at:

https://re-entries.com/decimal_twelvecents.html

It is important to note the wording that appears beside #3 on this page:

"This is another major which is often confused with the first two shown above. Note the doubling in many of the letters, particularly CANADA and PENCE, as well as the lower left numeral. ***

*** Notice that the new enlarged scan of the proof from position #62 seen to the right, does NOT show any of the details seen in the small close-ups below it. This is because this too is from the different proof sheet than the scans below. The only things similar are the two dots at mid-right. Therefore, I would conclude that this proof sheet must be the State 1 that Whitworth referred to, while the smaller scans from a different sheet must be State 2."

Here are the close-ups that Ralph is referring to on Re-entries.com. If you don't have any of these features, at best you have State 1 which is only identifiable by the position dots and does not necessarily point to a re-entry.

Echoing what I see a poster already stated (before I saw it), the dot in C for your stamp seems to be positioned differently from the test image beside it, thus clearly a different plate position.
