Unfortunately I don't read Hebrew, and I could not find the logo featured in the cachet anywhere. Thematically, it looks similar to masonic symbols, but I assume that's off the mark. Uploading the logo to Google's image search came up empty.

Any ideas on date and what is being commemorated?

Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking this is some sort of commemorative cover and not a FDC.

The logo belongs to the Technion, the Israeli Institute of Technology. I can't make out the date of the postmark, but the stamps look like the revised first definitive issued in 1950.

This is a special cancel for Student week, used in Haifa on April 11, 1954. There were a few dealers who produced cachets for special event cancels back in those days. Here is a link to the Israel cancel catalog online. http://israelphilately.org.il/en/ca.../1954?page=2

I found one in the SIP (Society of Israel Philately) bargain box at NOJEX on Friday.

The Hebrew postmark is clear: Chet (8th) Nisan 5714.

The English postmark would be 11.04.1954 though, on mine, the '11' appears, well, incomplete.

Cheers,

/s/ ikeyPikey
