I have two on what I believe are Scott #5's

Both have the mesh paper.

BUT Unitrade Catalog says the stamps should be 22mm x 22.5mm
NSSC doesn't mention size except for the 1 pence

HOWEVER, mine are more like 22.7mm x 22.2mm

Any ideas.

Trodent

Trodent..I believe your second stamp is a Scott 19 (1862)(reddish/brown)...I overlaid a Scott 19 top portion of your second stamp..Matches perfectly.

I am working on stamp one.
Remember, just my opinion buddy.

Hey Wert thanks for reply

But both stamps are on MESH paper, so they have to be #5 and not 19

Trodent

However, I will double check my #19's and post back later today

Trodent,
Nice posting thanks.
As you correctly noted, the mesh is a key fact.
Also--i agree that NSSC is silent on dimensions of #5, but we can safely assume that #1 (1d value) which had 22x22.5mm is a reasonable guide for the 5d value, as these first pence issues were mostly produced same year of 1857. (excepting some colors). My view then is that you have #5--pretty close measurements of your sample.
The 1860 version of the 5d is cited to be 21.75x21.75--so I'd rule that out.
Lastly--check for watermark, as this would rule out or in whether it is 1857 or 1860
Good luck
