Evening all, just purchased this lot yesterday on ebay and can't wait to go through all 200 of them! I'll update this post when they show up and I start going through them. -Willie

Afternoon all, well I have only had time to go though these and sort them by value. Nothing too stunning to report but I did find this postmark which caught my eye since the wife and I watch the show Wentworth on Netflix, we really enjoy it. Although I don't think this town is where the prison in the show is located, I thought I had heard it is supposed to be located in Melbourne. -Willie |

Oh yeah and this 4d and Victoria Centenary 3d on a scrap, it seems strange to have a 7d postage value, maybe I can get a little insight from someone more enlightened than I am. -Willie |

Hey misplaced hippie! Wentworth is just north of Mildura and just in New South Wales. Its the town that the Massey Ferguson tractor saved from flooding last century, and its on the banks of the mighty Murray river. |

When buying high volume lots of old stamps such as these, are there many varieties to be found or are they usually pretty well picked through? I ask this because I have a fair quantity of KGV sidefaces and I know that they have been picked clean. Where would this stamps have spent the last 75 to 100 years. |

There is very little truly 'fresh' material offered for sale, most has been recycled through the hands of numerous hobbyists and dealers throughout the years. Don |

Dates on KGV's can open up many treasures. Watermarks are window in time as well.
The printings before 1921 had printing plates that were made of a metal that wore under the massive load of stamps printed. This created many flaws for the collector to become very interested in.
Mostly this era was made up of single watermark and large multiple watermarks KGV's and they have many many flaws to look for.
As the steel printing plates become the normal so printing flaws lessened becoming harder to find as these plates did not ware as quickly as past plates did. So CofA and small multiple perf 13.5 printings have far less interest for the collector or printings after 1924.
The KGV printing years from 1920 to 1924 is a mixed bag of old and new printing plates. This area had Large multiple and small multiple perf 14.
If my memory serves me right. lol |

Just because 20 eyes may have looked over your purchase doesn't mean your experience and expertise cannot extraxt value. |

Quote: Counting mount marks on stamps is like reading tree rings. Thanks Al, for contributing to my morning chuckle, great quote. Nice lot there DH, they look great when mounted on a Steiner Page. |

DH, you are heading down a path of no return. The Aussie KGV's and Kangaroos can get you addicted to "fly specking" like no others. I've also been bitten by the bug and I must say you have some fun in front of you. Hopefully your hunt yields some fun findings. |
