Hello again;
The more I look at my stamps and check out the internet I find so many
different types and unique ways to look at stamps.
Like for instance the color of this Washington 10 cent how many colors and variations there are in this stamp .
I found a great web site, just for this .You now can see and detect these stamps .http://www.theswedishtiger.com/11-scotts.html you might check it out its very cool. But here is a stamp they don't have and I call it a combo color stamp it has a brownish carmine background and a dark claret color on the top lettering and bottom lettering sides and ornaments .Check it out tell me what you think.
Its pretty interesting.
Thanks again for your interest.
Dan

Your stamp is a 'color changeling', environmental conditions have changed part of the ink chemistry. It is common for this issue and is not considered a variety.

Can't let it go....This is a really a unique 10c stamp indeed. It is a changeling Don, it changed from a 10c to a 3c stamp...poof!

Seriously Dan, I too find the 3c Washington and 1c Franklin from the 1850's some of the most interesting and fun to collect US stamps!

I hope you meant that you used hydrogen peroxide, rather than bleach!

I think he meant "blinked" rather than bleached. Bleach would show us a white paper, peroxide would have equalized the color. I like the 10c to 3c changling comment. You can still change the title within 24 hours of post.

I would say UV faded. I have a color study of 50 of these stamps, and none are as pale as this one.

BTW .http://www.theswedishtiger.com/11-scotts.html has some of the worst color matches (sic) I've ever seen.

There was a old saying when you wanted to make your hair blond you would bleach it with hydrogen peroxide.
I don't know if that's true but I didn't bleach with bleach I used hydrogen peroxide for 60 seconds.
I was very surprised it worked it seems like it a little lighter then some of the same kind of stamps it wasn't that good from the start so it doesn't really matter.

I did a before and after look as close as I could. You can see the change in color and shades of lightness is a little ,its close.
I think after you use this process all you get is the original color we hope.javascript:insertsmilie('')
