India Bicentenary of the 16th Light Cavalry Regiment March 4, 1976 The 16th Light Cavalry Regiment was formed in 1776 and is the oldest armored regiment raised in India. It was a regular cavalry regiment of the British Indian Army until India gained independence in 1947. The regiment saw service in a number of conflicts ranging from the Second Anglo-Mysore War in 1781 to World War II to the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965. The design shows the Vijayanta Tank which is the first indigenous main battle tank of the Indian Army. |

Here is an image of a stamp depicting a Soviet tank commander, and Hradcany, the Castle District of the city of Prague, designed by Czech artist Karel Oberthor (1921-1996), engraved by Jindra Schmidt (1897-1984), and issued by Czechoslovakia on May 5, 1950 as one of a set of four stamps commemorating the 5th anniversary of the Czechoslovak People's Republic, Scott No. 406. - nethryk |

Is that a Hero of the Soviet Union medal he's wearing (the one on the right)? Could be somebody historical; perhaps a Czech national serving in the Soviet Army who helped liberate Prague.
Just wondering out loud.

Quote: Czech Republic 2015 They brought freedom - T-34 tank (self-adhesive) It seems to me the artist placed the gun barrel a little too high in the mantlet on that T-34: the gun breech is banging into the turret roof. Cheers, Robert |

On the Czechoslovak stamp is represented officer of 3 or 4 tank army who liberated Prague. On his uniform are the Order of the Red Star and the Order of Red Banner (Perhaps!). Medal of Hero Sovet Union is worn on the left site of breast. |

Trainwreck & Alexey - Interesting observations! I hope someone comes along who knows the full background about this Czechoslovakia stamp's design. Here is an image of an engraved airmail stamp depicting Yugoslav revolutionary and statesman Marshal Josip Broz Tito (1892-1980), a tank, a factory and warplanes, designed by S. Grujic, and issued by Yugoslavia on December 22, 1951 for Army Day, Scott No. C54. - nethryk |
