The St. Louis Local is also a Forgery. Of the 150 or so known none are on perlure paper.

revstampman, have to correct you there, two of the St Louis Provisional (they were not locals) were on pelure paper, both 11x7 and 11x8. Although I do agree it is a forgery as they have a dirty gray appearance, the one in the scan does not.

I stand corrected, You are correct they are Provisional's. Now that I think about it you are right, the last printing was done on perlure paper. If memory serves me correctly(I hope it does this time) All are extremely faultly. I had the pleasure of inspecting the largest collection of them at a CC meeting in NYC a few years ago.

I had made the point earlier about how all those ordinary stamps were not in the best of condition, but all those "rarities" were in unbelievable pristine condition. Dead giveaway that they are all fakes with a few ordinary genuine stamps thrown in to make it appear legit. A common practice among those trying to sell fakes or problem material.

I have gotten lucky a few times! However "Getting Lucky" normally happens when dealing with uncommon material. I once bought a $10,000 Sardina #7(I think) for a nickel!! Due to the fact that the seller just assumed it was bogus! I got a Cert. on it and sold it back to the same dealer for a $6,000 credit!
Moral of the story: Keep your eyes open and keep learning! It may just pay off one day.
