Hi everyone, Im looking to purchase a complete US Album set. I tried the Mystic Heirloom, got one volume, and don't care for it in a lot of ways. I have one volume of the lighthouse that was given to me used as a gift 20+ years ago, and it looks better than the two year old Mystic!
So I'm torn between the Lighthouse and the Lindner. Both are great albums, just not sure what is a better/easier stamp mounting system. On the page in the Lighthouse, or in the "sleeve" in the Lindner. Any comments on what you like or don't like of each album? My only other thing is why don't they spend the money to license the Scott numbers?, I mean how much can that cost? and you know they are just gonna pass it along to the buyer anyway! My lighthouse volume has them in it, so they must have done it at some point years ago.
Thanks,
Jim

I use both for differing mint non us collections. So I cannot comment to the us albums. Have an older Scott hingeless myself.

The Lighthouse Canadian one is nice but does not necessarily have the spaces for all the flyspec or varieties. You have to add additional mounts.

The Lindner ones usually have a pocket long enough to add the varieties alongside the regular ones. As well you can view the backside to see if gummed or hinged. You can pencil in the scott #'s.

What to decide, eh!

Mike

Not really. Have seen ad's for them, and they do look nice, but have not seen them in person. Do like how thy look with color pages!
Do you use them? I want to be sure when I make my move and spend the big $$$ it will be on a system I wont have to swap out of again!

One problem with Palo is their page size, they are enormous. some of it IMO is wasted space, they just want you to buy their binders. With Lighthouse and Lindner you can readily get hingeless stock pages to incorporate covers etc into the flow of your collection. I wound up sticking with my Mystic for US because the standard size format made it easy for me to produce my own pages for supplemental material. They are all fine albums, it just depends on how you collect.

I really like the Palo albums, the black & white illustrated hingeless ones. Even like the large page size, really sets off the stamps nicely. But Lighthouse is also well designed, quality page stock, and a little more flexible as said above. In my case, use Lighthouse when they have good coverage (e.g. Canada/Germany) and Palo for those countries not covered, where the only other option is Scott (which I don't like very much, despite having many of them...).

I enjoy the Lindner pages for several European countries, can't comment on their US. The sleeves will accommodate "extras" as stated and they sell many versions of their T-pages as blanks for any overflow.

SAFE also offer a T-Bar type album. With these and the Lindner, you can also hinge your used copy of a stamp to the page, with the mint copy in the plastic holder. If buying secondhand, check the Lindner pages closely - earlier hingeless pages had a different design and are very fiddly to use.

Definitely less attractive and less well made than Lindner, SAFE and Lighthouse, in my experience. Can't comment on Palo, which are no longer sold in Europe (as they are basically Steiner with bells on, I imagine that their appeal proved limited when Prinz distributed them).

Thanks for all the information. Dont know if it makes it any easier! Im leaning towards the lighthouse, and they must know it, as their 2019 catalog showed up in the mail today. Its offered in complete in 5 parts for $1735 I think. They are offering 20% off sale, but dont know if it includes this set? I havent priced the lindner, but im guessing its in the same price range. Decisions

Might be worth checking Nordfrim's prices for the leaves.

They are just the pages, no binders or slip cases and be very careful with Nordfrim as a lot of their pages are shown as back order

Every album has good points and bad points as I have them all for various countries.

There have been many compatison's and reviews done but bottom line is a matter of preference.

One thing I am noticing at my age, if you buy standard alums or print your own, by the time you get all the mounts and put them in, you will be out a great deal of time and probably will cost you more in the long run, but it will be spaced out over a period of time.
