These were sold to me as Japanese but they do not seem to have an obvious place in the main Scott Japan Catalogue. They correlate to SC 259 & 261
I am wondering if these are occupation issues of some description or something else?
If someone can help with the Scott number / ID and CV it will be a help.
These are MNH and very clean.
Many thanks!

I have to say that the Scott Catalogue pale pink image leaves a lot to be desired. I possibly would have looked in the Surcharged section and still not recognised this.

2 Tips Gumtree.

1. You can edit a post you make within 24 hrs, no need to make a subsequent post if you forget something (we all do)
Click the appropriate icon.

2. with Scott, as soon as you know you have a plus (+) sign on your unknown stamp, look in the Semi Postals.
or, look at the Scott "Type" then look for instances of that type through the pages.

Hi Gumtree55,

These stamps are listed as commemorative stamps (catalogue No. C85 and C86) in "Japanese Stamp Specialized Catalogue Vol.1 (1871-1946)", obviously because they have been issued to commemorate the conquest of Singapore. Catalogue value for mint is 200 yen each, for mint VG is 400 yen each. Didn't know that Scott lists them as semi-postals.

Interesting cover. There's no addressee here unless the addressee is the Klang post office itself. And the address has kana added to all the kanji which would make a postal historian's life easier even though it's commonly used characters found on mail and pretty clearly written for a change. The only trip-up to me is the town phoneticized as "kuran", but some postal worker added "Klang" to the cover as is usually done. The writer made one mistake, though(!).

I would suggest the non-postal surcharge, was for the war effort.
