Hi everybody, I'm new in this forum, so I apologize if this discussion is not in the right place. First of all, I'm italian, so I'm really sorry if my english could be not so clear, I do the best I can hoping to let me well understand. After this premise, I would like to ask your help to identify correctly a stamp inherited from my grandpa some years ago.
I looked for it on several different catalogs such as stampworld or the Scott, but I didn't find it. I'm not new in philately, but I know very well only italian area stamps, so I could only follow some clues, that now I'll share with you, trying to identify the stamp. It is green, about 32 mm high and 25 mm wide, and it shows in the centre a lion standing left with a saber in its hand, a rising sun behind it and a crown over it. In my researches I found out it should be the emblem of persian empire used on iranian stamps, but I couldn't find an exact comparison on any catalogue. There are, in the corners of the stamp, into leaves, and also below and over the central emblem some writing in arab that obviously I can't understand (maybe, in the left corner, there is the numeral "1" to significate the value of the stamp itself). I think there is no watermark.

So, that's should be all, I hope there will be someone who can help my solving this stuff and in the meanwhile I thank you all for attention.

Kind regards,
Giorgio

Hello g.garrati and welcome to the forum. Personally, I think that your English is quite alright. The stamp you have posted is from Iran, as previously stated by another member.

Hope you enjoy it in here and feel free to post as often as possible.

Thank you both for your very fast replies! I supposed they could be iranian, so I watched stampworld and Scott catalogues but I didn't find the match, neither looking in revenues and postage due stamps. There could be maybe a territory near or controlled by Iran that should have emitted it? Or maybe a more specific catalogue to control

Has me stumped. (Looks so familiar as well)
The shape of the bottom value tablets are unusual.
I looked at 65 pages of Iran Revenues without luck.

Just a guess but try Persia?

Mike

Edit: More than likely a revenue issue as noted and similar to the 1894 lion issue

If we don't get a answer from the expert and here is a clue from my copy of the same stamp { I have it mounted in my collection as a revenue ,due to the unusual cancel ] The cancel on mine copy may help to identify from what department serviced the stamp .

Bravo! Perf 12. You did it again. Well done you.
Great response. Shall save.

That was a toughie, I had searched 65 Pages of revenues of the Pahlavi era,
without success.

Here is another toughie, I'll post here, in case it ever comes up again,
Iran Telegraphic receipt stamps Farsi.

Wait a minute ! It looks like a GENERAL REVENUE stamp used by different sections of the government .The OP stamp has a different cancel than mine and mine has a lot different cancel than the National Police cancel.

Still waiting for the expert .As stated above the cancel will tell which department .

Rod: The yellow stamp looks like one of the Charity Tabriz Infirmaries & orphanages Issue.
