Thanks @Hy-Brasil for that! Your response to @rhett was legendary!! Everything I wanted to say but you did it in such a way that there's no need to reply! With that being said, yes I'm a simple man who gets excited and enjoy every moment with my stamps! I'm learning day to day and I'm proud of my progress, even if it's a snail race for me! I am okay with that! I'm closing in on a week of having this one and I'm not even near the bottom half of what's to be seen! I'm actually learning as I go, which means everything to ME! Fun fact: My mother in law asked a question about a stamp today from across the room, long story short, I was able to answer her before she even finished with the question. Not to mention not having to look up and see what she was talking about but having that COMMON stamp registered in my head was golden!
Quoting @Rhett "When I began collecting, I bought a lot of things I later regretted, simply because I was not experienced. I just think it would be better if others did not have to go through that."
That sounds like a personal issue you've encountered and IMO has nothing to do with the fundamentals of the hobby! What exactly was your reason for regrets if you don't mind sharing? Is it a monetary issue? I don't understand. I enjoy anything that I invested in and I am well aware of how things aren't always going to favor in my corner. That's not why I do this. There's far more interesting things I'm looking forward to seeing when I get to buying. I see no harm here in me getting random lots from a good friend who knows my interests and willing to help me with anything he can as far as the hobby goes. This guy who I won't name or anything works for the GVMT. In order to prevent theft by employees, each of them are given these random bundles every week. Stamps, coins, damaged/error items, documents, manuscripts, Memorabilia of all things collectible! Each are packed randomly and given to them! So what's the issue here with me purchasing them at what I consider a low price? Before I met this guy he told me he used to shred the stamps when he got home! Think about that!
Gs, yes it was a personal issue and the reasons for my regrets were both financial and emotional (due to later disappointment). And I was just as excited then as you are today, only to later come to view those decisions with regret. Speaking of regrets, I do regret it if I offended you as I did not intend to do that. Enjoy your stamps - it is a great hobby.
