I've returned to stamps after a long break, finding it an ideal retirement hobby. It's also an easy thing to do in the cooler climate of my adopted country than in the humidity of Australia where I lived until three years ago.

My return was triggered by attending a major stamp auction purely for entertainment, but as I sat in the audience watching the stamps, and thinking how vividly I remembered them after so many years, I went home, got out my albums and it's gone from there. It's fortunate that the albums from my youth weren't disposed of in the long break or missed the cut when we came to pack up our belongings and ship them to New Zealand.

So lots of purchases later, and decisions about what to collect (I don't remember thematics being a thing back in the day), here I am. My collection has reached about 30,000 but I don't have, or seek, anything particularly rare; I'm more in it for the collector buzz and the aesthetics.

I am appreciative of the almost universal friendliness, helpfulness and politeness of the posts on SCF, which contrasts to another major stamp forum (hosted in my previous country) where so many well-meaning posts got very rude replies (speaking from personal experience here).

My main countries of interest are France, Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, UK, Denmark & Hungary (with a few others in the development stage) and thematics being cricket (as in the sport), 1956 Olympics, Bach, Beethoven & cats.
