I have never seen a Prussian blue version of the stamp, but seeing pictures makes me think the colour difference is so slight that if I saw a "Prussian blue" stamp I would always wonder if it was some kind of colour changeling or even just dirty.

Reminds me of a PF paper that showed the number of US Scott 292's on the market without a straight edge far exceeded the amount that were possible.

Just searched for the Prussian Blue on ebay. Yikes!! there sure are a lot listed. I note a mint pair, several used, singles etc. for a $20K stamp I am amazed at the number listed.

I also noticed that this shade seems to be very common. Accorrding to the Stanley Gibbons Great Britain Specialised Catalogue, volume 2, four sheets printed in this colour were released in error by the Post Office supplies department. Three are known to have been sold. It means a maximum of 480 of the Jubilee Prussian blues can exist.

Stamp issues in the used condition make up less than 5% of release numbers....?

I would not be surprised if more mint than used stamps exist. Three of the four sheets were sold from the sub-office at 134 Fore Street, Upper Edmonton London between 24 June and 5 July. It could be the case - I am speculating - a collector noticed the strange colour and bought part or whole sheets.

But I agree that the number of mint stamps on offer, recently, raises questions. I suspect the majority that are offered are not the Prussian blue stamp.

My memory is that a purchaser from the Upper Edmonton post office noticed the unusual colour and contacted Gibbons, which advised him to purchase others if he could. The likelihood is, therefore, that there would be few used copies.

Your memory serves you well. I Googled it. Mr A.J. Stavridi sent his secretary to the post office to buy stammps, When she returnned, he noticed the strange colour and went to the post office. He bought the remaining stamps and used a few to send to fellow collectors. Of the 360 stamps. 41 had been sold.

I'd definitely love to see a more clear photo of the certificate as, despite the blurred image, the perfs don't consistently match the photo of the stamp itself imo. But it's quite blurry so a better cert photo on the website would be splendid - in the name education and friendly discussion, of course.

This is my opinion as well- my impression is that the stamp and the cert image don't seem to match.

Most are clearly not correct in color.

Given the price differential between the normal blue and the Prussian Blue, and the clear rarity of the used stamp, it seems an obvious target for fakers.
Especially as the regular version used is quite common.

Its out of my league in any case, but I sure wouldn't buy one without a good cert.
