I recently inherited a very clean French FDC with a picture of Arthur Rimbaud. It is dated October 27, 1951. Can you let me know what it's price should be if I decide to sell it? Thanks in advance.

Hi Stan, and welcome to the forum. Nice cover, but hard to tell the value. In this case I would check Delcampe and/or ebay to see what a cover like this sold for.

Here is what ebay sellers are dreaming about selling similar 1951 FDC.
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...c&_sacat=260

I am unable to link the ebay actual sold prices for similar FDC but they are considerably less if sold at all. Take a look.

I would check Delcampe pricing for the Europe picture.

Please note the distinction between addressed and unaddressed covers.

We started off all business and now a big welcome to SCF.

Here is a cover exactly like yours (addressed but not mailed, since Farcigny is a French editor of FDCs)
Catalogue value (Yvert) 50€,sold on Delcampe for 8€

Most addressed first day covers from France of this era tend to sell on ebay in the range of $1 to $3. The one that sold on Delcampe for 8 Euros seems to have been a case where the buyer really needed it for their collection. Most dealers would not be interested in buying inexpensive covers since they cannot make a profit on them, and they are able to buy this kind of thing in large quantities for a fraction of a Euro each on the wholesale market which allows them to make the profits they need to stay in business.

Thanks for the reply and information. I guess we'll put it back in its folder and leave it for the next generation.

Or better yet, you could use it as the start of a collection of modern era (post WW 2) French first day covers. Collecting modern era first day covers is a fun and inexpensive hobby that leads to learning many things about the history of the country you chose to collect.
