Stamps of this kink are listed on ebay 1st watermark but in the Scott catalog, this watermark is an 8. It is a wide watermark. Can you tell me more about this stamp? Also I think it is a die II because I don't see any breaks in the frame except for to the left of the country map.
Thanks

It looks like the wide watermark, but you need to give us a scan of the lower left to help figure out die type. You have to eliminate Die I before you can consider Die II

I'm having problems with the image optimizer. I cropped the image below the stamp and it came out like that. So then I redid it and it said 84kb but was actually over 500 after downloading it.
Anyway after three times I go it.

Scott's watermark type 8 is commonly referred to as First Watermark in Australia as it's the first watermark used for the Kangaroo stamps.

Hope this helps

Correct, it is an early state of Die ll
Break in the first shading line above "N" of "ONE"
and...looks like break in first shading line under the left upright, of the "N" of "ONE" (debatable)

Paper : imported ready gummed with white gum arabic . Vertical weave .09 to .10 mm

The stamp is identifiable as from Plate E Left 16 (EL16)
due to the plate flaw here.....

Postmark : Brisbane Queensland.

1st Wmk (Australia) = Wmk 8 in Scott.

TIP: The 1d red Kangaroo was only printed on 1st Wmk (Wmk8)
so that makes it easy peasy.

1st Wmk Paper was only of Vertical Mesh, (Others only horizontal) so mint stamps will tend to curl naturally from top to bottom.

Wmks 101
