What To Do With All These US Postage Stamps?

Greetings! I am hoping to get some advice on what to do with THOUSANDS of mint, post office fresh US stamps. My dear father in-law collected books, sheets, zip blocks, plate blocks and all other forms of stamps. The Zip blocks and plate blocks are neatly organized into albums, but there are quite literally thousands of stamps either loose or in the shrink wrap from the post office. There are many denominations, from .05 to forever stamps (more than I could use in my lifetime).

I have been considering selling lots on ebay (how big should the lots be, should I group like-category stamps?). Any other suggestions?

Just a start suggestion. Be careful of your description and terminology. "Unused" can mean - well - used but not cancelled. You are I think talking about "mint, post office fresh." You should call them that - is they are.

Susan, looks like you have a major project on your hands.

First off after ebay fees your net return won't be all that much per face value.
These days most people buy discount postage anywhere between 50% and 75% of face value.
A couple of other options to consider is your local kijiji or if you have a stamp club locally that might be another outlet. Lots of active stamp collectors exchange stamps via the mail and still use a lot of postage.

I would contact them and get their help/insight in dealing with the inheritance problem your wonderful father-in-law left.

They are close enough to be able to actually visit you and eye ball the collection to gain better perspective on what options you may have.
