This evening I paid an invoice to an ebay seller- non philatelic item. I Wanted to do it as a debit from my linked bank account as I have many times in the past. I was not given any way to do so. I was only able to use credit card options. I know ebay is dumping Paypal at some point. Is this their little nudge to get customers to stop using it? It seems sort of a crummy thing to do to their customers. But when has that ever stopped ebay?

Having recently returned to ebay sales after some years away, I have so far not figured out how to make PayPal payments from the money accrued to my PayPal account via sales, the way I used to. Do I actually have to transfer my PayPal balance to my bank before it can be utilized? Seems weird. |

Very odd. My most recent ebay purchase was five days ago, and I had no trouble paying with Paypal from my linked bank account. I was paid by Paypal for a job I did last summer, and I was able to buy stuff on ebay for the rest of the year using that Paypal balance, without having to transfer the money to my bank account. |

They bought paypal years ago to make more from transaction fees, and now they dump them. Just as easy now to use your credit card straight out. Use one with a very small limit amount on it if concerned.
Also there is a big change going on with countries working together to obtain income taxes from individuals that are receiving income and not reporting it. Everything today has to be linked to accounts with a social security number. Money flow is being traced to watch for laundering, and transfers to terriorist groups. |

In PayPal, there is the option of linking your accounts to the main PayPal account.
This is what I have done.
I did this for an added level of security. I now use PayPal as my payment method, but choose my debit card as the source of payment under PayPal. It appears to all concerned that I paid via PayPal when in actuality I paid using my debit card. |

I'm pretty upset with PayPal for requiring me to include my ebay sales on my tax return. In total, I had a loss but do not have the records to prove it. So now I have to declare a crappy $1,000 of sales as if it was all profit. That's what the 1099K shows, anyway. This will impede my online transactions from now on. Jack Kelley |

Quote:I'm pretty upset with PayPal for requiring me to include my ebay sales on my tax return. Don't be upset with PayPal. They did not decide to just do this. They are required BY LAW to issue 1099-K and report to the IRS if your payments received exceeds $20,000 AND the number of transactions exceed 200 in the calendar year. Note: Even if your payments received and number of transactions did NOT reach those thresholds, several states (e.g., Vermont and Massachusetts) have much lower annual thresholds that will trigger income reporting. This is not just PayPal either. It is ANY 3rd-party payment processor like Apple Pay, Google Wallet, any credit card processor, etc. Also, whether reported or not, you have always technically by law been required to report the proceeds as income, and then deduct any relevant expenses; there's just no reporting below certain levels. |

I just made another ebay purchase minutes ago, and I had no problem with using Paypal to debit my linked bank account, which was already set as my preferred option. What had changed, however, was that the ebay checkout page didn't automatically show my other payment options. Instead, I had to click "Show payment options," after which I could have changed to credit card or whatever, if I had so desired. |

It does seem to be hit and miss; often I can click on 'other payment options' and reach the link to payment using my bank account. What did not occur to me that last time was to have used my Visa debit card. |

I've been seeing this behavior for the last 1-2 months now. It defaults to credit card and you have to go out of your way to enable PayPal every single checkout. I think it has to do with ebay "encouraging" buyers to use payments other than PayPal... so they make using PayPal more difficult. I love ebay the platform. I loathe ebay the company. |

Set up 2 Paypal accounts, one for buying and 1 for selling. The selling account add your credit card, the buying account leave the credit card off. |

Okay, this time ebay wouldn't let me pay with Paypal linked to my bank account, but it did allow me to pay with Paypal linked to my credit card. I have encountered this before on rare occasions, and it seems to me that it must have something to do with either the seller or the country in which he is based (in this case Australia). We'll see whether I can go back to paying with my linked bank account on my next purchase. |
