Hi there - New to the forum and have been trying to ID the attached stamp and was hoping someone could help with a few newbie questions.... I think the attached is either Scott no. 227 or 331. Can someone confirm?

Both numbers are 13 x 12.5 and Scott 331 has added " ,14" after the 12.5. Can someone tell me what the 14 means?

Also, Scott 331 has watermark of 313 - is that the only way to correctly ID stamp?

Finally, the stamp on the right has the marking -11 also. I dont think thats part of the cancel. What is it?

Thanks very much! Wm

Thanks vayolene.

Do you know if this might be a Scott 227 or 331? Maybe I have to try to see a watermark?

Thank you vayolene. I'll try later today. I've tried 1 or 2 previous stamps and saw nothing. But, being new I'm not sure if I was just missing it or none there. Will report back.

okay, so I found the watermarks - in the catalogue, not on the stamp - I was looking in the front of the catalogue instead of the front of the country. Buts tks also vayolene for the above. As I've never seen one, it still elude's me - I did not see any on the above. But looking closer the perf's seem to be different between the 2. Still stumped.

They look like two different stamps.I pointed too the area where différences are
very noticeable.
1) No central vein in the leaf. 2)Rays coming out of the "5".

3)Chin 4)Shape of "0" 5)Eyes looking in a different direction.

There are others...

With respect, I am finding different changes

I only see colour change, and the lips of the Intellectual.
The leaf has a spine, and the rays from the "5" remain the same.
have I got this correct?

so if I've done the measuring right, the one on the right(in my original picture) is a Scott 227 and the left Scott 331 with Perf. 13 x 14.
