So I have been trying to decipher watermarks and am having trouble with these 3 different stamps. This is what im thinking and I was looking for some thoughts.... I think the 1st 3 20 pf's are Scott 333's due to the postmarks '57 & '58. The 70pf I think is a Scott 230A and the last ship one I think is a Scott 337 due to the color, I think brt blue not dark blue. I can't see any watermarks. Thoughts, help.... Am I on the right track . Tks much

The 20pf reds are most likely #333, postmark and imprint.
The 70pf also has an imprint and is likely #338, while the 50pf blue has no imprint and is therefore likely #230.
The last two identifications assume no watermark and perf 13.5x13 rather than perf 14

Stamps4life,

The stamps you are showing a part of the DDR "5 Year Plan" series. It is one of the more complicated DDR series. Sometimes the only way for a correct identification is by watermark.

There are a number of threads here that deal with that series.

Here is an identification guide that might help you get started.

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.
I collect for enjoyment, not investment.

Hey Dan - thanks for the link - very helpful. I know the issue is not being able see the watermarks if they are there. So until I can get someone to help in real life - maybe the stamp club - guess im stuck. Based on the few I've seen on other stamps, id think I could see something - but none at all. tks for there help!
