I came across this 1938 Switzerland stamp today and was struck by the cancellation. Can anyone provide information about it?

I looked around and found one ......it is an event cancel for something in 1939. In this case, the cancel was on a postcard, basic design consists of a half wing with chain links. In place of the other half of the wing/chain design there is just the 1939 date.

This is a really crappy scan, you cant read the words but, I think you get the idea...! I'm gonna look around a bit more...

OK.....part of your mystery is solved.....! On Google, type "1939 zurich slogan stamp cancels". Scrolling down the screen you will see some similiar cancels. They are for the 1939 Swiss National Exhibition!

Run through your existing collection and you may already have the start of a cancel collection.

Hi Dianne:

I collect WW used stamps and keep a side collection just for their cancels. Most are bullseye place names, but I also acquire slogans, objects, and targets. Occasionally, a stamp is large enough to get a complete commemorative cancel plus the place name and date such as this one from France.

Cancels on stamps is a great sideline collection, I recommend it.
