This seems to be a lot of money for some people to bid for such a simple-appearing stamp.

Or am I missing something??

Yes, it's China says it all.

This appears to be Michel #1 II, in their computer-vended stamps catalog. It is "Gummidruck" (value printed on the gum side). There is no catalog value given on this stamp. When Michel prices this way it means that there are too few transactions to be able to give a value. Some collectors mistakenly believe that the lack of a catalog value attached to the listing means that the price should be very high.

I have bought some Michel-listed Frama stamps with no value listed, for a small/reasonable price. But, as revenue collector says, it's China.
