I am in the market for a "presentation quality" album system using linen-hinged quadrille blank pages with a narrow binder for a very specific collection showcasing a single stamp (RB23; ~22mm H x ~28mm W). Maximum anticipated page number for the collection will be less than 50 pages.

Currently considering the ELBE WASHINIGTON ALBUM system. Is there anything better that I should look at for such a small collection?

I really like the classic look of a wide linen-hinged page.

Plan B is to use Vario Plus stock pages but I can't seem to find a high quality leather 3 or 4-ring binder that is narrow.

I wish there was a quality stockbook available with fewer rows but wider crystal clear strips (over 24mm) so that they would completely cover the stamp.

I'm a big fan of Elbe albums. I have several and they provide for a beautiful presentation, if you take the time to make one.

The Frank Godden albums are a possibility, but probably too wide for you

Look into Lighthouse, Schaubek, and KaBe albums. One of them, I believe, still sells linen-hinged pages, but I can't remember which. The first two have websites in English, and the third (KaBe) is sold by Lighthouse.

Ah, just found it! It's KaBe. Their pages are somewhat larger than the other sellers' pages, and you'd need to use one of their albums to hold them, presumably. Also for the life of me, I can't find any indication of the number of pages you get with KaBe. Kind of important, I'd think. Here's a link to the pages. They're probably pretty expensive.

Schaubek sells some excellent quality blank pages, including pages which have scored grooves to simulate linen-hinging. And they're very inexpensive to boot, about 35˘ a page or so. Worth considering. As much as I love linen-hinged pages for their elegance and ease of use, I'd use less expensive pages like the ones with the grooves which can also be turned easily but which won't make me angry when I misspell a word or draw a stamp box wrong and have to start over on a new page.

These sellers also commonly use long cut-outs on most of their pages in place of scoring of grooves or linen-hinging to make their pages turn more easily, but I find the long cut-outs unpleasant and a bit silly looking, so I try to avoid them.

@DrewM Exactly! Definitely my top reservation in using expensive linen-hinged and/or scored blank pages... just one mistake and it is all over! Though if I do go this route I will most definitely outline first with a hard lead 2H pencil (even as high as a 5H to avoid a dark line and smudging) before carefully inking over it... though this still doesn't guarantee 100% success.

I just realized that I probably do need a slipcase/cover as well due to my environment so I am finding myself once again considering the use of Vario Plus stock pages (arghhh plastic!) or even Lighthouse's Top-of-the-Line Leather Stockbook with Slipcase. Making a mistake on an insert label for a stockpage/book is definitely not as catastrophic!

Decisions...

I haven't made one of these pages in awhile, but when I was doing it, I would use pencil and really take my time. You can't get in a hurry.

You can also use mats to mount some things on - for example, covers. Then you use corner mounts or hinges for the mat. That's another approach. If you have a particular stamp or set of stamps, you could even mat them nicely. Just a thought.

Its a lot of work, of course, but it produces a very personalized album. I will say, that these days, my time is limited, and so I use Varios these days for that reason. I'm still looking for a good excuse, and a lot of time, to possibly mount another collection on these ... we'll see.

@txstamp Ahhh... I think I understand what you mean. Use a piece of stock paper/card, cut down to size to fit both the intended hand written inscription and mounted stamps, that is carefully mounted to the linen-hinged album page with clear corner mounts. If I managed to get that completely wrong please kindly send a pic or link to set me straight.

@DrewM & txstamp - Thanks for the help gents... I will thoroughly review and compare the following four (4) blank systems that offer quality heavy stock linen-hinged/grooved quadrille pages and binders with slipcases:

LIGHTHOUSE KABE BLANK
ELBE WASHINIGTON BLANK
SCHAUBEK SENATOR BLANK
LIGHTHOUSE PRIMUS AZ BLANK

Just a related stamp protection tip --

I notice you're in a "high humidity zone," so I'll recommend using dehumidifiers to protect your stamps. There are the passive kind which have crystals that absorb moisture in the air, but even better are the inexpensive (Chinese-made) little dehumidifiers with removable cups you can empty once a week or so. I use a few of them, and I live in dry-as-a-bone Southern California. If I lived with humidity I'd be installing something even more serious than these little machines, but they do work well. They're easily found on A-m-a-z-o-n.

@DrewM - Yes indeed. Luckily, the room where my stockbooks reside is climate controlled 24/7... and to be certain when not in used they are stored in a closed cupboard with a passive crystal dehumidifier that I routinely change. I am considering buying a large sized desk humidor and/or making one. This will probably be far better option than my worrying about finding a binder that comes with a slipcase.
