Our club recently received a donation of Scott National binders. All have labels and the question has come up as to the best way to remove the labels without damaging the binder's finish.

Any suggestions?

Is that not pretty well going to be determined as to the type of gum used on those labels and how long they have been there?

Lighter fuel usually works, but it could lighten the area where the label's been removed.

Much easier and safer than solvents and glue remover is the ever-reliable hair dryer. Just warm up the label for a minute or so, then start to peel it off. As you peel, if you continue to heat the underside (where the glue is, it will come off easily. Any remaining glue can be removed using heavy packaging tape (even Scotch tape may work) to stick to the glue and pull it off. Or use Goo-Gone if you have it. I find the hair dryer method removes both label and glue pretty reliably and causes no damage. I had tried a few different solvents, and some were disastrous to albums.
