According to a site I found the parcel rate in the UK in 1947 was 1/2d for 15lb. So perhaps a piano was shipped (j/k). Not sure of what insurance cost for something in 1948. One thing for sure is we need a high resolution scan of a single stamp to possibly determine the CDS. I for one never used the term rare but I consider the block to be uncommon.

That was the GB inland rate I believe.

Yes it was the inland rate. But until a better scan of the cancel is seen we do not know if it was domestic or international or even fiscal.
