I have two sequentially numbered REA183 stamps. They are cancelled 7/23/46 Linden. My question is in regards to the letters adjacent to the serial numbers. One is an F and the other is an M. Are these the equivalent of plate numbers or perhaps the stamps position on a plate?

The letters are positions on the pane; fifteen stamps to the sheet lettered A through O. The black numbers are the sheet numbers. The two illustrated stamps came from separate sheets, albeit numbered one apart.

Linden Brewery Inc was in Lindhurst, NY Only operated from 1934-1948, though it had 3 other names prior to prohibition, starting in 1893. If those were available....
