The article on page 11 of the PDF, Philatelic Entropy, is VERY well worth reading.
As for the catalogue, what a stupendous work of reference! One of the finest auction catalogues I've ever seen. |

An unbelievable run of material. Thank goodness there was someone with the means to gather these many significant multiples together. Let's hope that whoever buys these items leaves them intact.
Not only are the individual lots stunning, the remainder collection lot is to die for!
Wow.

I expect them to remain as they are. Most are well known and are worth much more as multiples then any one or two singles would be worth, even as a 100J. |

I did notice that the pedigree for the 1c plate 2 right full pane was missing the name of one owner from 1980 to 1988 which would be the person that broke up the only existing sheet of plate 2 right. I would like to know the name of the idiot that split the sheet up. That should be made public so the community has the chance to stop the person from ever getting the chance to purchase rare material ever again. We do not need these kind of people in our hobby, destroying unique material. A real shame.
I have asked Siegel for some high resolution images from this upcoming sale. Not sure what, if anything, I will get. I asked for too much but will settle for lots 12, 15, and 16.

Does anyone here really think that lots 2, 12, 15, or 16 would be cut up for a jumbo single????? Or lot 251? Since the idea would be to make real money by doing so, does that seem likely? |

The Philatelic Entropy article is essentially a plea to not break any of these multiples up. It's certainly a sentiment I agree with. |

Wow. Absolutely stunning.
Also, can we discuss how amazing the quality of the catalog is? It's essentially a book, 250+ pages with historical information, photographs, estimated value, although I am sure that will change (a) at the time of the auction and (b) years from now when/if these stamps are sold again. However for the here and now wouldn't this be considered a pretty great consolidated resource about these multiples?

Not a US collector, but that is an outstanding collection, and the catalog is a fascinating read. A work of art in itself. Well worth a perusal for anyone that loves beautiful stamps and their history. |
